Mark Hines has commenced preparations for an expedition to the North Pole. The details have not yet been confirmed, although provisionally sometime in the spring of 2013 and/or 2014, depending upon funding, he will leave from land and make his way to the Geographic North Pole. The current record stands at a little over 34 days.
The primary concerns are the risks from polar bears and open leads. The temperatures can be as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius, and lower still with wind-chill. The distance to the Pole is approximately 480 miles, with boulder fields and open leads presenting the greatest obstacles.
This webpage will be updated as more details become available. Further information is available on Mark's website.
Mark is seeking corporate sponsorship for this expedition, with total costs projected to be in no more than £70k. If your company might be interested in becoming a sponsor of this world record attempt, then please contact Mark directly via email.
